The Matteo Ricci College (MRC) Student Coalition, made up of MRC students and their allies, began a sit-in on Wednesday, May 11 at the MRC office at Seattle University. Their demands include a complete overhaul of the current Eurocentric curriculum, new programs and hiring practices for staff and faculty, and the immediate resignation of MRC Dean Jodi Kelly. The coalition promises to occupy the office space until their demands are met.

You should remove the photo in the Fall 2015 section as it is not a photo from that time, and having it shows a false sense of organization earlier on. Thus, immoral reporting. Also, please add that students and staff spoke against the Coalition on Monday May 23rd, and when these students got up to speak – the Coalition refused to listen and walked out of the meeting.

      Thank you.

A fact check: while many Coalition members who were present at the AcA meeting on Monday May 23rd, several members remained in the room along the walls alongside the other students, faculty, and staff present at the AcA meeting. I cannot speak to any of their individual nor collective intentions about leaving or staying, neither can the above user (“the Coalition refused to listen and walked out of the meeting” speaks to the intentions of “the Coalition”) unless the above user is a member of the Coalition or spoke with members of the Coalition who were at the AcA meeting.

I do think it would be helpful to add that there were also students, faculty, and staff who did speak in favor of Dean Kelly and/or against the Coalition.
