Fan Appreciation Day on the Last Game of Regular Season

On Sunday, soccer fans flocked to CenturyLink Field in Seattle in a blur of green and blue to cheer on the Seattle Sounders FC in the final game in the regular season.

Sunday was a day of celebration and festivities led by Fan Appreciation Day, but the roaring crowd was not enough to inspire a win from Seattle’s star soccer team. The Sounders FC settled for a 1-1 tie against the Los Angeles Galaxy and dropped to the No. 4 seed in the Western Conference.

Disappointment in the final score comes with good reason; the Sounders FC will now have to play Colorado on Wednesday in order to secure a spot in conference semi-finals. Had Sunday’s game ended in a win for the Sounders, going to conference would already be a reality.

Sounders FC Head Coach Sigi Schmid isn’t discouraged by the results of Sunday’s game. Sunday’s tie marks the end of the Sounders’ losing streak, and Schmid is confident that the Sounders will defeat Colorado and move on to victory in the conference.

The deciding game against Colorado will be played here in Seattle at CenturyLink field, giving fans another chance to come out and show their support for the Sounders FC. The match starts at 7:30pm and will be broadcast on KONG-TV.

“It is fantastic to look at our crowd and setting an attendance record for the fifth year in a row,” Schmid said in a post-game interview. “The sporting side has done that well but our fans, and what they do in our front office here to get the fans out here, and the experience they have in the stadium will continue to be a solid one and we will continue to put everything we can every time we play for them.”
